iGEM 2018

In 2016, the University of Leiden participated for the very first time in the worldwide iGEM competition, with a strong and interdisciplinary student team. The team aimed to engineer bacteria that are able to detoxify Martian soil, which contains large amounts of the toxic compound perchlorate. This project thus contributes to futute colonization of this planet. More information about their project is available here.

Also in 2018, we will be participating in iGEM again. We are currently selecting the team members from the large number of applicants.
