Good teaching is crucial to stimulate self-motivated learning, creativity and critical thinking. I am coordinator of the MSc program Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology, and the Minor Molecular Biotechnology. I am also involved in various BSc and MSc courses within biology, all related to microbiology. For example, I teach in the BSc courses “Exploitation of Natural Products”, “Biotechnology – From Gene to Biobased Product”, and in the MSc course “Global Regulatory Networks of Bacteria”. These teaching activities include both giving lectures, but also running and coordinating practicals. I also developed a new 12 ECTS course called “Molecular Design”. My teaching activities and effort have recently been recognized with the “Teacher of the Year 2014”-award of the Faculty of Science.
